How to Select a UCP Bearing Unit
Start with the machine interface, not with a favourite series. A bearing unit has to match the shaft, the housing footprint and the way the shaft is restrained before load, environment or material options become useful.
1. Identify the housing form
A base-mounted support usually points toward a pillow block. A side-mounted frame may need a square, oval or round flange. Conveyor tensioning positions often use take-up units, while an insert-only replacement keeps the existing housing.
2. Match shaft and mounting dimensions
Measure the shaft diameter. Then record centre height and bolt spacing for pillow blocks, or flange width/height and bolt pattern for flange units. Keep the original model as a reference, not as the only identification basis.
3. Choose the locking approach
Set-screw, eccentric-collar and adapter-sleeve families solve different shaft-locking requirements. Rotation direction, shock, reversals and shaft condition should be mentioned when the lock type is under review.
4. Describe the environment
Contamination, washdown, humidity, temperature, speed and lubrication access can change the preferred housing, insert and service plan.
